Edmonton Oilers Photo Contest

First of all, I would like to thank those of you who voted for me. I really appreciate your support.

The bad news is that I didn’t win. In fact, I wasn’t even close as I finished in 14th place.

The good news is that they sent me a Nike Oilers hat and a $10.00 gift card to the Oilers store. The better news is that I am going to give those away!

Since nobody followed the rules for the original contest, I am going to send the hat and the $10.00 gift card to the first person who links to this post.

Here is a picture of the boobie prizes the oilers sent me.

Andy Sutton Fights The Panthers

I didn’t get a chance to watch this game, but looking at this picture of Andy Sutton fighting three Florida Panthers makes me wish I did.

I still haven’t figured out what Sutton did to start this whole scuffle, but it is obvious that the Panthers took offense to it.  I’m slightly disappointed in the Thrashers because there is not a single Thrasher in sight, although it looks like Sutton is holding his own.

Stan Jonathan Fights Pierre Bouchard

This video clip is for those of you who think that fighting just became “dangerous” this season with Jon Sim and Todd Fedoruk getting injured.

This classic fight features Stan Jonathan fighting Pierre Bouchard of the Montreal Canadiens on May 21, 1978. Jonathan beat Bouchard so badly, fracturing his nose/face, that Bouchard was eventually forced to retire.

Cascade Helmet

Cascade CHX Helmet | Hockey HelmetLooking through some of the major sports equipment manufacturers catalogues typically leads to seeing the same types of things with minor variations here and there. Enter Cascade with their new SEVEN technology CHX Helmet.

Who is Cascade?

Cascade has been making sports helmets in the United States for two decades, and are the official helmet provder to Major League Lacrosse. However, they have recently ventured into the ice hockey market with a helmet called the Cascade CHX.

Concussion Protection

The Cascade CHX with SEVEN technology claims to be the Enemy of Concussions! That is a great marketing claim these days with all of the emphasis on the prevalence of headshots and the amount of injuries that have resulted from hits to the head this season. But…can they prove that the CHX is better than current helmets at protecting players from concussions?

The Cascade SEVEN technology uses “lateral displacement technology” to provide the protection of two helmets in one. They claim that their helmet protects equally as well against concussions as it does against catastrophic hits.

Custom Hockey Helmets

For all of you who like to customize your helmets, Cascade has over 3,300 color combinations to choose from and custom helmets are built and shipped within 24 hours.

The price point appears to be about $140.00 without a cage, but there are no dealers listed on their website and no pro players currently using the helmet.

Where to Buy It!

The Cascade CHX is available at Hockey Giant.com for only $119.99!

Hockey News Clips

NHL Hockey NewsI thought some of my hockey look-a-like photoshops were pretty good, but the Pensblog takes it to the next level. They have collected literally hundreds of hockey images that have been transformed in one way or another and posted them all here in a Hockey Photo Extravaganza!

On Frozen Blog is really rooting for the Caps’ new jerseys to be the talk of the league and possibly beyond.

The overstated blog title of the week goes to the Pens Insider who wrote “National Audience in Awe of Pens Talent”…catchy, I must admit.

Mirtle points to a story about Derek Boogaard, one of my favorite NHL fighters.

Habs Inside Out has an extensive profile of Tomas Plekanec that includes an audio spot.

Canucks and Beyond has some very disturbing thoughts on Colorado.

Quote of The Day: Off Wing Opinion

“We largely are what we are and there is nothing Darcy Tucker can do about it.” — ESPN.com’s John Buccigross on the effect of hockey fights on the general public.
