Stanley Cup Finals News

Stanley Cup FinalsWow! What a performance by both teams in game number two! Both J.S Giguere and Ray Emery played outstanding between the pipes.

Let’s take a quick look at some other reactions from around the web.

CBC noticed that the Senators were firing blanks in Game 2.

The Ottawa Senators were outshot, outchanced, out-hit, outworked and simply outclassed.

The Ottawa Senators top line of Spezza, Heatley and Alfredsson is failing to attack the offensive zone with any speed and their transition game is not working. In addition, they continue to turn the puck over far too often.

Chris Pronger hangs around the crease, his 6-foot-6 frame and wide wingspan protecting the Anaheim Ducks’ goal. On the boards, Scott Niedermayer taps the puck away from an Ottawa forward and flips it up the ice.

ESPN noticed that Anaheim’s 3-2 victory over Ottawa in the opener of the Stanley Cup finals got a 0.72 cable rating on Versus and was watched in only 523,000 households in the United States.

Joe Pelletier shares some interesting fact about the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks, the most important being their place in the 2007 Stanley Cup finals. However, an interesting coincidence: Each franchise featured goaltenders named Hebert in their inaugural season.

The Montreal Gazette reports that the Canadiens have made a contract offer to defenceman Sheldon Souray. Souray’s agent Paul Theofanous, told the Gazette on Wednesday that Canadiens general manager Bob Gainey made the offer on Tuesday.

Milan Lucic A Top Bruins Prospect

Milan LucicMilan Lucic of the Vancouver Giants won the Most Valuable Player at this year’s Mastercard Memorial Cup in Vancouver. The hometown Lucic helped the host Giants win their first ever Memorial Cup at home in this past weekend.

In the final game versus the Medicine Hat Tigers, Lucic came out flying and delivered three consecutive bone jarring hits to the Tigers in one shift, finishing it off with a victory in a fight versus Medicine Hat’s Josh Bendfeld.

While Vancouver controlled the game from the outset, I would suggest that, during that one shift, Lucic tipped the scales for the Giants who never looked back after that.

Lucic, a Bruins second round pick, is certainly big enough to play in the National Hockey League. At six-feet three and 220lbs, Lucic has a power forward presence with the upside to be a second line player in the NHL. Playing an “in your face” style, Lucic will likely be asked to hone the finer skills of his game in order to make the jump to the next level. However, a memorial cup MVP trophy certainly won’t hurt his chances of cracking the Bruins’ line-up come fall.

Not only is Lucic a bonafide prospect on the ice, he also has also displayed quality leadership skills, earning the respect of his teammates.

“There’s something to be said for a guy who will drop the gloves, who will score, who will do all the little things in a game,” said Kendall McArdle. “He’s really a leader of our team.”

I’m looking forward to seeing Lucic in a Bruins jersey next season, at least for a couple of games.

Arnold on Hockey Night In Canada

Game one of the Stanley Cup final saw Anaheim take the victory over the Senators at the Honda Center in California.  There was a lot of media surrounding the opening game and it even included some government officals in attendance.

Here is something that you might never see again. This is a video of the Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, talking with Don Cherry on Hockey Night In Canada!

Stanley Cup Final News

Stanley Cup FinalsToday marks the opening game of the Stanley Cup Finals and I thought it would be great to see what news is pouring in prior to the game!

The 2003 playoff MVP Jean-Sebastien Giguere has a ton more big-game experience than does the Ottawa Senators’ Ray Emery.

“Ottawa has been a great place for me all around — a great hockey team to walk into and great people to be around.” Said Heatley

Dany Heatley is trying to move on nearly four years after he was behind the wheel in a horrific car accident that killed his friend and Atlanta Thrashers teammate Dan Snyder.

The time for talking is over for the well rested Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks, with Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final getting underway tonight at the Honda Center.

The car slowly gained speed along the country road and Chris Neil pumped his legs as hard as he could in trying to keep up.

”Teemu’s been in this league for 15 years and he’s never had a chance to play for the Cup,” Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere said. ”We couldn’t have any better teammate. ”He deserves this. I’d just love to see Teemu win this thing.”

Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty thinks the Ottawa Senators are going to beat the Anaheim Ducks in the Stanley Cup final, and he’s willing to make a wager about it with the California governor. McGuinty and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger have placed a friendly wager on the series.

Ottawa Senators have invalidated more than 150 Stanley Cup tickets inadvertently sold to suspected ticket brokers.

P.S. - I predict Ducks in Seven.  Dustin Penner finally steps up and plays the way he can!

Enjoy the game and be responsible when consuming the “wobbley pops”!
