5 Changes For A Better NHL

The Mercury news recently offered five changes that they believe would improve the National Hockey League.
The NHL is introducing revamped uniforms at the All-Star Game. Here are changes that would be better than tinkering with sweater design.
1. Pick one timeout in which there is nothing but the hum of the crowd: No music blasting. No geeky stunts. No video gimmicks. Talk to your neighbor.
2. Give players the option to skate without helmets in the shootout: Fans can get a better look at the stars.
3. Ban music during a fight: A scrap is plenty entertaining by itself. This isn’t “Rocky.” We don’t need a soundtrack.
4. After a video review, the referee must explain the decision to the crowd just like in the NFL: Simply saying goal or no goal is insufficient and insulting.
5. Every arena must have an HD video screen on the center-ice scoreboard: Immediately, if not sooner.
We agree that some changes might improve the game for the fans, but we’re not sure that these are the most pressing issues that could be addressed.
What is your opinion? What do you think should be changed?
Thanks to Kukla’s for the tip.

Ok Ok.. These don’t seem like issues that don’t really need to be addressed.
1. Pick one timeout in which there is nothing but the hum of the crowd: No music blasting. No geeky stunts. No video gimmicks. Talk to your neighbor.
OK OK… Who even really cares whats goin on in during the breaks. It’s all for entertainment and keeping the fans in it and to keep them from being bored. And besides, a lot of times, the music or the videos can be a conversation starter between two people in the crowd.
2. Give players the option to skate without helmets in the shootout: Fans can get a better look at the stars.
How much of a better look at them can they get. We already see their faces. Who really wants to see their hair. I believe that would be too much of a safety issue. If a guy was to trip and fall then what? And not too long ago i saw Nikolai Khabibulin throw a punch with his blocker at a Vancouver Canucks player’s head during a shootout. The dude was lucky he had a helmet. Keep the helmets on the players.
3. Ban music during a fight: A scrap is plenty entertaining by itself. This isn’t “Rocky.” We don’t need a soundtrack
This is really a decision to be made by the people who play the music at games. In my opinion, the music gets the fans pumped and maybe even the players. Let the music stay.
4. After a video review, the referee must explain the decision to the crowd just like in the NFL: Simply saying goal or no goal is insufficient and insulting
I VERY much agree with this one. Too many times has a referee made a decision after a video review and you have to be, How in the world did he come up with that?” A lot of times it just seems like they flip a coin and don’t seem to have a reason for their call.
5. Every arena must have an HD video screen on the center-ice scoreboard: Immediately, if not sooner.
??????? Who Cares.. as if your paying attention to that anyway. I personally don’t think that makes any diference what so ever.. ” HEY BOB DID YOU SEE THE PICTURE QUALITY ON THE MEGATRON ?!?!? ” ” .. Uh, no… I was watching a hockey game…. ” That kind of decision should be made by the arena since i think a humongous HD screen would be very expensive.
