Bauer One95 Skates

Nike Bauer has finally released the long awaited sequel to its One90 skates. However, the One95 still weighs in at over 700 grams. Conversely, the Easton Stealth S15 skates, the lightest on the market, have a weight of well under 700 grams.

The new One95 skate is constructed from a material called ALIVE. What is interesting about this material is that it is not epoxy based. When a skate uses an epoxy based material, the process of “baking” the skate for a better fit is not as useful because only in interior components of the boot are shaped and not the boot itself.

The One 95 Skate Boot

The new ALIVE material used in the construction of the One95 skate is designed to allow the entire boot to be formed to the foot during the “baking” process resulting in a more customized fit. The One95 boot is also slightly deeper fitting than the One90, which will allow more people to wear them comfortably without affecting performance. The abnormally shallow boot construction of the One90 prevented many players from comfortably wearing the skate.

The ALIVE material that is used to construct the boot of the One95 is reported to be about 35-45% lighter than the material used for the One90 skates. However, the One95 still weighs in at over 700 grams. Conversely, the Easton Stealth S15 skates, the lightest on the market, have a weight of well under 700 grams.

One 95 Blade Holder

In addition, the One95 will utilize a stock white TUUK Lightspeed 2 blade holder that will accommodate both the Lightspeed 2 and Lightspeed 2 Power blades. Some One95 models may be equipped with a new Lightspeed 2.1 blade holder that accommodates a longer steel runner for increased speed.

The tendon guard is vastly different than that of the One90 and more akin to the tendon guard used on the Vapor XXXX skates. Nike Bauer has addressed the concern about broken tendon guards that were found to be problematic with the One90. The One95 also features a white felt tongue that is more familiar and comfortable to most hockey players.

  21. Jon on Sat, 9th Feb 2008 6:05 pm

    Hey sup
i’ve done quite a bit of research on these and they’re said to be a cross between the Vapor XXXX’s and the One 90’s. This skate is lighter (as said in the review above) and if you ask me looks more comfortable as well. These do come out in spring, but as for the price, i’ve heard all types of guesstamets. They will be in the $500-$600 range though. If you pre-order they may cost more….

I just found out that these come out on April 18 in many selected stores. The skates are made for $400 but obviously companies have a mark up price leway between $500 and $600. Excited and counting the days!

  28. michael on Tue, 26th Feb 2008 7:14 pm

  32. kevin on Thu, 13th Mar 2008 8:20 pm

They are not coming out with a One 95 stick. The stick you probably saw was just a One 90 Chrome. It looks pretty sick.

  33. tyler on Sun, 16th Mar 2008 10:56 am

they are comming out with a one95 hockey stick its gonna be like the xxxx skates and the stick comes out a little later. my uncle is a nike/bauer representitive and distributes NB equiptment all over the country (I’ve Seen it its sick its all black similar to vapor xx stick with white outine)

  47. Mark on Fri, 11th Apr 2008 10:19 am

OK…people….i have had nothing but problems with the Bauer skate line….i have worn Bauer skates for the last 17 years….and ill tell yah….Bauer has gone south…!!…in the beginning of last year i need to replace my Vapor 10’s….so i bought a pair of the One90’s…i had to heat them 3 times….it took 4 months to brake them in…and then as soon as they became comfortable…the sole pealed off the boot..on both heals….!!!…One90…very light…not very nice….SO Bauer acknowlaged the problem… warented my One90’s..I then worked a deal with the local Rep. to get a pair of Vapor xxxx as my replacements….loved them…they fit awesome right away….then where the toe box meet’s the skate boot in side the skate…started to wreck the side’s of my feet….and after 3 months the memory fome that the ankle cup’s are lined with….lost there memory…!!..leaving my ankle touching the outter shell of the skate…the skates hurt so bad …i couldnt even put them on….so once again i bring them back and Bauer warenties my Vaporxxxx…and now im giving Bauer one last chance…im waiting on the One95’s…
im hoping these are the ones…if i have any issues with these $600.00 skates…i will return them…and buy Graph’s or something…..OH AND F.Y.I…BAUER KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEMS WITH BOTH THE ONE90′S…AND THE VAPORXXXX…..!!!…soo good luck to all….this is one skater that is finding lighter…is not always better….

Just bought a set of One95 skates a few hours ago from icewarehouse.com. Problem is, I’m military and deployed right now, so it’ll be a month before I can skate on them. I’ll post a review once I get them formed and on the ice.

  54. Jon L. on Sun, 20th Apr 2008 6:42 pm

WOW! I have the one95’s on my feet as i am typing this. They are so extremely comfortable, light, and the ALIVE 3d forming technology is awesome. They really do feel like a cross between the vapor XXXX”s and the one 90’s!

  55. petey on Sun, 20th Apr 2008 11:29 pm

i have a pair, bought them 2 days ago yes i had them baked yes they are light but they are stiff as anything, literally the stiffest skate i have ever put on they make the 30’s and XXXX feel like sneakers. feel like i cant skate they are soo stiff but i havent fully broken them in yet, but they do feel great and very protective around ankles, a MUST

  56. michael on Fri, 25th Apr 2008 8:57 am

love them most comfertable skate i’ve gotten, even though i haven’t got em baked yet im going to get them baked oh and tips for breaking in skates put them on with skate guards and walk around the house

  57. michael on Mon, 5th May 2008 9:00 am

i just skated on them they are so easy to break in a little different than the 40s best skate in the world. and the lihgtest

  58. nick on Mon, 5th May 2008 8:08 pm

dude these skates are tank. i got a pair of them last month. i think that they are lighter than and easton s15 skates. great cuts, smooth, form fitting. u could wear this skate without gettin it molded and it would be comfortable.

    AWESOME SKATE!

  59. paul on Mon, 5th May 2008 8:56 pm

in thinking about getting the 0ne-95 skates, anyone know how they are (feel, break-in time, stiffness, durability) thanks for your input..

the one 95 skates are really great!

  61. mark on Sat, 24th May 2008 6:42 pm

i play AAA hockey and i got the one 95 skates a couple of days ago and just had a practice today. the skates feel really good on my feet, they are MUCH different than the one 90s by far. Paul, i really recomend the one 95 skates to you , they seem very durable they are very comfortable and i broke them in in 15 minutes, BUT every breaks in skates at different times. they are VERY light skates, their just a little heavier the easton s15 which i used to have and i profer the one 95s better to you paul!

  62. paul on Fri, 30th May 2008 3:21 pm

thanks mark, im picking them up tonight….

  63. paul on Thu, 5th Jun 2008 4:15 pm

thanks mark i picked them up about 3 days ago, had them heated let them sit over night and skated on them 1 time at open hockey, then had a game the next day, they hurt alittle on my right foot on the out side for about 10 mins, then felt great. felt great for the game. thanks again mark for your input.

  64. Chris on Mon, 23rd Jun 2008 10:02 pm

these skates only feel good if your feet match with them if you have any callases they hurt so bad your feet have to match the skate or they hurt really bad vapors fit every one and theyre way lighter

  65. Chris on Wed, 25th Jun 2008 1:27 pm

these skates cant be formed completly if the ankle doesnt fit but they re really light

  66. Richard on Thu, 26th Jun 2008 2:07 pm

i have heard that breaking skates in by putting skate gaurds on and walking around the house is not good for the holder on the skate and may cause the holder to break but i v never tried it

  67. mike on Thu, 24th Jul 2008 11:30 pm

they cost $650 where i tried them on today. they are light, but i’ve definately had lighter skates before. i thought they were really comfortable, even without having them baked.

  68. Jon on Wed, 20th Aug 2008 9:35 pm

I really got a good laugh reading these reviews. It’s clear there is no consensus on whether you should bake, skate guard-break, or just pay a lot of money for a skate that looks just like all the others. It is clear that most hockey players do not know how to spell.

  69. Luis on Sun, 7th Sep 2008 7:11 am

Well, getting back to post a general review of this skate and unfortunately for me, these skates just aren’t working out. Let me caveat that comment by saying that it has nothing to do with the quality of the skates: they are very well-made,sturdy and have a great feature set. That said, I can’t recommend them for someone with flat feet. If you can afford good insoles (like Superfeet or another high-end insole) then they might work for you, but in my case, it just wasn’t enough. We had no local hockey shop in my area until very recently, and when I bought the One95s, I couldn’t try them on in person. I bought them online and knew it was a gamble. They seemed fine at first, but lengthy skating sessions revealed fit problems that I couldn’t decipher right away.

The bottom line for me is that I ended up coming into a new set of last years Rbk 9k Special Edition skates for an incredibly good price and I’m simply much happier in those. I had to drive 2 hours to try them on at the closest hockey shop to me, but making sure they fit and standing/walking in them for a good while before buying proved invaluable. The Rbk 9ks are just better suited for a flat foot and have been like a dream on the ice performance wise.

If you like the feature set of the One95 skate and they fit you well, go for it. I cannot bash the skate for not fitting my foot properly; that’s not Nike Bauer’s fault. The features and construction of the One95 are definitely top of the line. Just make SURE you do whatever it takes to try them on before buying, even if you have to drive a good distance to do so. Don’t take a gamble like I did and get stuck trying to sell an expensive skate (for a hefty loss, no less) because it seemed too inconvenient to make a long road trip to try them on in the first place.

  70. Jamie on Sun, 7th Sep 2008 6:16 pm

I got the one95’s few weeks ago, had a pair of vapors and the one90s also, they all actually seem rubbish compared to the one95s, completely different skate, absolutely amazing, hardly needed to break them in, get the right size and they fitted me perfect, Would NOT swap them for any other skate, i put my one90s back on the other day to have a bash in them and i did not like it aha. However much you have to pay for the one95s, they are well worth it, definitely the best skate made to date. :)

  71. Matt on Tue, 14th Oct 2008 12:02 pm

I just bought a pair of one75’s on the weekend because my old pair of Easton Airs kicked the bucket. I had them heated and molded on Saturday and played a game in them on Sunday. All I can say is… AMAZING! Unbelievably comfortable, very stable, super fast. It’s like my old skates were a Honda Civic and I just upgraded to a BMW. I can’t wait to get out on the ice again, these skates are easily the best equipment purchase I’ve made in the 25+ years I’ve been playing hockey.

  72. Nick T. on Wed, 15th Oct 2008 12:19 pm

Picked up a pair of one95s about 2 months ago and absolutly love them. Best skate I have ever owned. However, I was having a bit of trouble when i was doing cross overs to the left but I think it was the way the blade was sharpened because I don’t have that problem anymore. I would’ve never thought of buying skates that are $650 but I split the cost with my mom.

    My Review:

Fit: Excellent. Ha them heat molded the place I bought them in and they ate very comfortable.
Performance: Very light skate. Great powerful strides ( I can reach my max speed in about 4 or 5 strides)
My speed and agility has improved dramatically! Did a lap around the ice in approximately 15 seconds)
Durability: I know it has been only two months but this skates are tough! During practice when I was sprinting laps, I fell full speed into the boards skates first (twice), because of the problem I was having crossing over with my left foot, and there’s not even a scratch on them. Also took a slapshot to the boot and it only left a puck mark which I rubbed right off.
Protection: Having fell into the boards twice at full speed skates first, I didn’t feel a thing. But when I took the slapshot off my skate, I felt it a little but didn’t really hurt at all.

Well, there’s my review. Hope it helps you all out.

    -Nick T.

  75. slegehamer on Mon, 3rd Nov 2008 9:56 pm

wore the one 95s for a few weeks. switched back to the one 90s. play at college level.. one 95s, although very very comfy, are heavy and bulky, and feel like a ski boot with blades. they are likely designed for 6′5 230 pound players. any 0ne 90 fans looking to upgrade, i recommend the one 75s. same boot as 0ne 90s, with the white tuuks.

ive got a one95 stick black with a yellow strip down the back side there pretty good got lots of flex…… i paid a $$100 cant beat that!!
