Bobby Orr Greatest Hockey PlayerI set out to write about Bobby Orr as the subject of NHL Digest’s weekend hockey legend, but I then came upon this video that says more than I could ever write and explains exactly the legacy that Bobby Orr left in the National Hockey League.

The video is somewhat long, but it is eight minutes that you won’t regret spending if you are a hockey fan. Enjoy!

Bobby Orr’s offical website is a must view. Make sure you have some time to really check out all that it has to offer.

A great tribute to Bobby Orr can also be found at the Bruin’s Legends Blog.

A lesser know fact is that Bobby Orr also owns ORR Hockey Group, a player agency that represents rising young stars like Rick DiPietro, Jason Spezza and Eric Staal.

Always felt that Bobby Orr was the greatest ever…followed by Richard and then Gretzky. I live on the tapes of Bobby when he was a kid; always the most dominant factor on the ice each time his blades set down.

I only wish I could have seen him live, even if in the nosebleeds, beating my Leafs.

I am in total agreement that Orr was the most complete player in the game as he could play every facet of hockey at top speed. There have been other great ones the closest to him would have to be Howe who could also do everything well in all aspects of the game.I think that Messier would be third as he could play the game any way you wanted and a total team player.
Speaking of the top fifty of all time that was solely based on point production not all parts of the game.

I did get to watch #4 Bobby Orr live as I was growing up from 1969 through the end of his phenominal career !! It was so obvious to me and to all who watched in Boston and throughout the nation that the greatest hockey player to ever wear skates was #4 Bobby Orr !! As a little kid all I ever wanted to do was be like Bobby Orr !! What was even greater than his ability was his humility !!! He was without question the most humble superstar in all of sports !! When other superstar’s are gloating and boasting , Bobby was blushing and ducking his head when sportscaster’s and the like were bragging about him and his incredible ability !! He would hold the puck 80% of the time when he was on the ice, not because he was a puck hog but because he was the best play maker on the ice and his teammates knew it !! He would play cat and mouse with forecheckers and leave them behind his own net chasing him as he circled it as if to say na,na,nana,na you can’t catch me !! Then he would blitz his way up the ice through all of the other teams players and either score on the goalie, get a great shot on the goalie, or lay a perfect pass on the stick of one of his teammates to score as he drew the defense away from them !! He did this numerous times every game, I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen any other Ice Hocker Player do it at all even once!! He dominated the game from the defenseman position which to this day is unheard of !! If he ever played center or wing he would have broken all scoring records !! As it turned out he became the first defenseman to ever score 40 goals and the first defenseman to ever win the scoring title !! To this day if you score 40 goals in a season you are considered a great goal scorer !! Gretsky was great, Lemieux was terrific, Howe and Hull were awesome, but #4 Bobby Orr was, is, and always will be the greatest Ice Hockey Player to have ever played the game !!

PS: If you never had the chance to see him play there are video’s and cd’s of Bobby Orr out there for your viewing . I suggest if you are a lover of hockey and you have never seen #4 play, make it a priority to purchase or borrow these cd’s and video’s; you will not be disappointed but most definitely amazed !!!!
