I am not sure what would possess someone to think they should take on Derek Boogaard in a fight, but Todd Fedoruk thought of something. Even though Fedoruk is 6’2″ and 231lbs…it’s still Derek Boogaard (6’7″, 250lbs)!

Fedoruk suffered a massive facial injury from Boogaard’s punch and to quote Kurtis Foster “It was disgusting…I can’t believe he got up!”

Thanks Kukla’s Korner for the head’s up!

[...] Of course the First Carnival of Hockey wouldn’t be complete without a submission from NHL Digest.  There is still nothing more chilling than the Fight Video of Derek Boogaard crushing Todd Fedoruk’s face.  The slow motion replay of the fight almost makes my stomach turn. I hope that Fedoruk’s facial reconstruction turns out alright and that he can come back to the game.  I still can’t figure out why he called on Boogaard… [...]

[...] 10.) When the game’s on you make your wife call you “Coach” if you know what I mean. 9.) You have season tickets to the USA Hockey Hall of Fame…in Eveleth,MN. 8.) You have a bumper sticker that says “Jesus Saves, Crosby scores on the rebound”. 7.) You’re meeting Ken Hitchcock at IHOP to talk about his next career move over a 12 Stack and a gallon of Aunt Jemima. 6.) You tracked down Barry Melrose’s hair stylist to make your mullet look authentic. 5.) You’re still arguing that Sergei Makarov was too old to win the calder trophy. 4.) You swear you could take Derek Boogaard in a fight, if it wasn’t for the shoulder injury you suffered from falling while trying to make a left turn in Beer League a couple years back. 3.) You can finish this quote from the movie Slapshot “You can’t put a bounty on…”. (Leave your answers in the comments section, there will be a prize for the winner) 2.) No matter how much Gretzky sucks at coaching, you still wish you “sucked that bad”! 1.) Your car looks like this: [...]

  3. " » Petrovicky Knocks Out Newbury In Fight" by National Hockey League Digest on Sun, 11th Feb 2007 9:39 am

[...] Roanld Petrovicky knocked out Kris Newbury last night in what was one of the most hideous hockey knockouts since Boogaard broke Fedoruk’s face. Toronto’s Newbury was motionless on the ice for about 5 minutes, but regained conciousness and was moving. He was taken off of the ice on a stretcher after team doctors tended to him on the ice surface. Watch the video here. [...]

  4. National Hockey League Digest » Eric Godard Crushes Eric Boulton on Wed, 14th Feb 2007 11:47 am

[...] Godard landed quite a few punches to Boulton’s face, resulting in a bloody nose for the smaller Boulton. As the Sportsnet announcers commented, “It was a picnic for Eric Godard”. It wasn’t quite as good as when Godard beat up Derek Boogaard, but it was a clean win for the youngster nevertheless. [...]

[...] If they really want to make the game more entertaining for the fans, they should throw out the instigator rule all together. If someone delivers a cheapshot, then they have to live by the code and pay the piper. Let Derek Boogaard and Eric Godard earn their living. [...]

  8. Todd Fedoruk Fights Colton Orr | National Hockey League Digest on Thu, 22nd Mar 2007 12:40 pm

[...] This hockey fight is sure to make all of the sports highlight reels this morning as Todd Fedoruk got knocked out by Colton Orr of the New York Rangers.  I have to give Fedoruk credit for coming back after getting his face crushed by Derek Boogaard, but how much punishment can one man take? [...] Mirtle’s thoughts on Fedoruk- Let’s hope he’s okay. He has had an extremely difficult season, as he had his orbital bone shattered in an earlier fight with Derek Boogaard. It’s generally when I see incidents like this that I ponder just what the value of fighting in the NHL is. Given the way public sentiment has slowly started to move that way, I wouldn’t be surprised to see scraps become a 10-minute or game. [...]
