For those of you not familiar with Howard Shapiro, he is well known for writing in a very friendly style that is emotional, gripping and enjoyable for all ages.

Shapiro’s new book, Hockey Player for Life, honestly had me hooked from the first chapter.  The book is a mere 127 pages split into 21 Chapters, making it extremely easy to read.  So easy, in fact, that I finished it in one sitting!

Bringing Back Memories

The major themes running throughout this book quickly brought me back to my days of playing youth hockey.  For the first three chapters I kept thinking to myself – is this book was about me?

Through this story, anyone who played hockey as a youngster will undoubtedly reminisce of those winters spent traveling to weekend tournaments over long distances, through all types of weather, replaying every shift on the ride home.

Those who did not play hockey, but played another team sport, will also easily relate to the portrayal of a hardcore coach with a military coaching style and the intricacies of the different relationships that teammates develop with one another over the course of a season.

Learning Life’s Lessons Through Hockey

In Hockey Player for Life, Shapiro reflects back on the life of a young boy whose love for hockey is tested when, just as everything seems to be going his way, his life turns on a dime.  The boy finds out rather quickly how important family and friendships are and how we can easily take them for granted when there are no bumps in the road.

The life lessons that we learn through sport, and often take for granted, are brought to life in a poignant story of a young man who, through hockey, strengthens family relationships, builds lifelong friendships, and becomes a Hockey Player for Life!

NHL Digest recommends Hockey Player for Life as an easy to read story that is sure to resonate with athletes of any age and can be purchased at Amazon.com for around $10.00.
