Jaclyn Donahe of Wicked Bruins Fan Submits:

The Boston Bruins recently held their 3rd annual Bruins Celebrity Bartending at the Sports Grille. Technically, it was the organization’s 5th bartending event because I can remember former Bruins defenseman Nick Boynton working the first two. Last night it was defensemen Andrew Alberts, Dennis Wideman and Mark Stuart behind the bar lending a hand to the great staff of the Sports Grille.

Forward Brandon Bochenski was missing because he was assigned to Providence on a conditioning stint. Alberts, a veteran when it comes to bartending, was working his third straight year behind the bar. He’s an old pro. Stuart was working for the second straight year. The Bruins had raffle prizes including a team autographed jersey and a team autographed jersey that two very lucky fans won. For a donation of $10, fans received a beer glass with the Bruins alternate logo on it, along with a t-shirt.

There was also a radio station there doing trivia questions and a Miller Lite promotion that had free t-shirts and visors. The players were very nice and attentive to drinks. One spotted my water and persuaded me to have a drink, which I later did. Ironically, none of the players served me which was alright by me. I had a beer to start, and then a Red Bull and vodka that I had one of the staff bartenders make special. (According to my anesthesia paper that was sent home with me, I shouldn’t have been drinking until at least 36 hours after.)

I then added a couple of more beers later. I donated my $10 and got the glass and t-shirt. Then I had Alberts, Wideman and Stuart sign the t-shirt for me. One of the defensemen got challenged to a game of Buck Hunter and squeaked out with the win by one measly point. The night overall was a lot more laid back than other bartending events.

There were about a dozen of kids who stopped by to eat and grab themselves some autographs and trivia prizes. There were no favors or hugs or pictures that don’t exist, but there were some jokes made with the players and it seemed to make me forget about any pain I had in my hand. It also helps that I was very comfortable in my element last night.
