The Bruins are currently shacked up in California for a few days. (You harsh NHL schedule, scheduling three off days between the game in Phoenix and the next game in Anaheim.) The Anaheim Ducks will be raising their Stanley Cup banner before tomorrow’s game, so there will probably be a significant delay to the start time of 10:00 p.m. Nap if needed. The Bruins had Sunday off after playing two games in two nights, plus travel. Now in California, the Bruins have been practicing at the Toyota Sports Center. Monday’s practice seemed to be “one of the most brutal” according to Bish.
Center Marc Savard’s injury is now a slight strain specifically located to the groin. Savard is listed as day-to-day, but don’t expect the Bruins to rush him back. Winger Peter Schaefer also missed practice yesterday because he wasn’t feeling well. The Bruins practice in about 20 minutes.
I’m sure Fluto will be updating the Globe blog regularly throughout practice and after, so check there if I don’t get back to update until later tonight. Bruins dodged a bullet While most of the NHL seemed to improve team jerseys this season (whew, Bruins, you dodged quite a bullet, although I’m still on the “hate” side of the love/hate relationship with our own white jerseys), it can be said without a doubt, the team that has the worst looking “improved” jersey are the San Jose Sharks.
Here is John Buccigross’s take on the Sharks jerseys, found through Kukla’s Korner.
When I see these Sharks uniforms on television, I think I’m watching a skit from “Full House” in which Joey Gladstone goes five-hole on a stumbling Uncle Jesse. These Sharks are so 1991, so “Yo! MTV Raps.” “Everybody dance now!” These things need to be put into a dumpster, set on fire and rolled down a mountain as soon as possible. Then again, maybe that’s why Jeremy Roenick is off to a good start. He thinks it’s actually 1991.
So while I still try to pretend to love the Bruins white jerseys, I will be happy with the fact that teams wear black jerseys at home because I like the Bruins’ home jersey. And I will be thankful I won’t have to see the Sharks jersey in person any time soon. NYC Shopping is a Must When I was on vacation, I visited a RBK outlet store and could not find one NHL thing. I could find tons of NFL apparel, MLB items, and NBA stuff, but nothing close to the NHL. This confused me because NHL jerseys are made by RBK. I could find sneakers that had both the Patriots and Red Sox logo on them, but not one thing with a NHL trademark on it. Perhaps I was in the wrong state, at least I was according to this, again found on Kukla’s Korner.
“As the official outfitter of the NHL, Reebok is thrilled to partner with the League to create this first-of-its-kind shopping experience,” said Reebok President and CEO Paul Harrington. “With the ‘NHL Powered by Reebok’ store, we are delivering a truly innovative, symbolic and authentic retail experience for hockey fans of all ages. The store is a fitting showcase for two of the world’s most respected brands – Reebok and the National Hockey League.” —- “NHL Powered by Reebok” is truly revolutionary as it marks several industry firsts. It is the first store of this magnitude to show the breadth of entire league with all 30 teams represented. The store features the first-ever merchandisable frozen “Ice Wall,” and it is the only retail destination to feature floor-to-ceiling digital video walls for displaying larger-than-life high definition NHL games and highlights.
The “NHL Powered by Reebok” store will be located on the ground floor of NHL Headquarters in New York City. That may be the one reason to go to NYC before December.
