Jaci Donahe from Wicked Bruins Fan Writes:

Better late than never. The Boston Bruins hosted Bill Guerin and the New York Islanders on Sunday at the TD Banknorth Garden. (I had no idea Guerin was with the Islanders.

Somebody needs to brush up on her NHL players and teams before the season opens on Wednesday.) The Bruins lost 4-2 in their pre-season finale, and finished the pre-season with a record of 1-4-1. Manny Fernandez got the start in goal for the Bruins and stopped 28 of 32 shots, while Rick DiPietro started for the Islanders and stopped 23 of 25 shots. The Bruins jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after a goal from forward David Krejci at 5:09. Krejci made a nice shift around a defender and shot the puck past DiPietro. Assists went to P.J. Axelsson and Andrew Ference.

The Islanders grabbed a late goal in the first period to tie the game at 17:53. At 9:32 of the first period, Krejci was the recipient of a borderline cheap shot (a.k.a. clipping), and defenseman Andrew Alberts came to Krejci’s defense, dropping the gloves with Islanders’ Brendan Witt. Alberts racked up the additional penalty for instigating while winning the bout. The Bruins grabbed the lead again at 1:14 of the second period when Glen Murray scored, assisted by Marco Sturm and Marc Savard. A little over five minutes later, the Islanders tied the game with a goal from Mike Comrie. Then later in the period, defenseman Mark Stuart dropped the gloves with Guerin in front of the Bruins net.

In the third period, the Islanders got their first lead of the game after Miroslav Satan scored his second goal of the game. Then John Sim added another goal with 1:22 remaining to give the Islanders the 4-2 victory. The Bruins were without Zdeno Chara, Dennis Wideman, Brandon Bochenski, Milan Lucic, Jeff Hoggan and Nate Thompson.
