In the short few days after the Spengler Cup ended and Curtis Joseph showed the world, and more importantly NHL General Mangers, that he still has the chops to play and win against top-level competition NHL Digest speculated that he would be back in the National Hockey League.
Today it was announced that Cujo will be joining Mike Keenan, whom he played for previously in St. Louis, and the Calgary Flames. The Flames have relied heavily, as always, on Miikka Kiprusoff this season but Kipper has yet to live up to his previous years’ performances this season.
It is unlikely that Joseph will replace Kiprusoff as the Flames starter, especially since the Flames are coming off an outstanding month of December where Kiprusoff appeared to be improving.
Joseph struggled last season with the Phoenix Coyotes and began this season without a contract. His performance at the Spengler Cup certainly turned some heads, including that of announcer Paul Romanuk, who suggested that Joseph made a very strong case for being back in the National Hockey League to finish out the season.
Joseph sports a career 2.76 GAA along with 47 shutouts while playing 16 season in the National Hockey League.

Too bad Toronto didn’t pick him up and send Raycroft to the minors to regain his confidence.
