Hockey and Politics

I’m starting to wonder if Quebec will do anything to try to annoy English Canadians and stir up the French Canadian vote to make separatist movement from Canada.
Earlier this year there was a story stating that Guy Bertrand thought Quebec should have their own hockey team at the World Championships. It might be a good team, but what’s the point? Maybe Saskatchewan could have its own team as well?
Sure, Quebec would have the edge in goaltending, but I think that Defense and toughness would be the name of the game for Saskatchewan.
Team Saskatchewan could throw a line together of Darcy Hordichuk, Wade Belak and Derek Boogaard…wouldn’t that be a something?
Today, Member of Parliament – Luc Malo of the Bloc Quebecois made a demand that Shane Doan be removed as Captain of the Canadian World Championship Hockey Team over some alleged remarks made about French Canadians in 2005.
“He has said disrespectful things,” said a visibly agitated Malo, waving his finger in the air.
“Quebecers don’t feel the team represents them at all.”
More information is available from this article at CBC, but I’ll save you the trouble and quote the only sensible thing in the entire article here:
On Monday, Conservative MPs in the House of Commons said there is little they can do when it comes to Team Canada’s roster.
“The senior men’s hockey team selection is a decision of Hockey Canada, not the Government of Canada,” said Helena Guergis, the secretary of state for sport.
