Gilbert Perreault entered the National Hockey League in 1970, winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL Rookie of the Year – he never looked back! For seventeen seasons, the slick Buffalo Sabres centerman mesmerized opposing defensemen with his ability to “stickhandle in a phone booth”.
Wearing jersey number 11, Perreault would centre the “French Connection” skating between Rene Robert and Rick Martin. During his illustrious career, Perrault would manage 512 goals and 814 assists for 1326 points in 1191 games, earning him a spot in the hockey hall of fame in 1990.
Perreault garnered two All-Star selections in 1976 and 1977. He also won the Lady Byng trophy in 1973 as the league’s most sportsmanlike player.
The following video contains highlights of Perreault’s Career and his quote to be remembered as a “Tap Dancer for the Buffalo Sabres”.
