  • In a move that helps clear the way for the return of defenceman Scott Niedermayer, the Anaheim Ducks traded forward Andy MacDonald to the St. Louis Blues for centre Doug Weight on Friday.
  • Teens in the NHL? That’s nothing new. Teens bringing a team back to life? That’s different. The Windy City is falling in love with the Kane and Toews show.
  • The Carolina Hurricanes are in some kind of weird funk right now. Nothing seems to be going right for them. Friday night, the Calgary Flames came into town having just played the previous night as well as 2 nights before that. The Flames are in the middle of a killer cross continent road trip. If ever you were going to get a jump on a team, it would seem that would be the perfect chance.
  • Dear Andy Murray, When you first signed on to be the head coach of a then pathetic St. Louis Blues team, you preached about ownership. You told players that they were owners of companies, that company being themselves. There’s one specific player that lecture really seemed to get through to: Eric Brewer.
  • The Avalanche got their fifth road win of the season with a 2-1 defeat over the Nashville Predators. It was nearly a perfect performance from Peter Budaj but Alexander Radulov was able to beat him with just 20 seconds left in the game.
  • With baseball still buzzing about the Mitchell Report, the NHL asserted Friday that widespread use of performance-enhancing drugs is not an issue among hockey players.
  • Don’t get me wrong. I like Mike Richards. A lot. But when news broke on Thursday that the Philadelphia Flyers signed their heart and soul player to a 12 year, 69 million dollar contract extension, I had to shake my head.
  • During the 1991-92 season, Dave McLlwain played on a record number of four different teams. Dave McLlwain has had a pretty easy time of it lately.
  • Leafs captain Mats Sundin continues to make his way up the all-time NHL goal scoring list. Sundin, with 539 goals after last night’s tally, is one behind Teemu Selanne for 26th in all-time scoring. Then comes some heady territory: Sundin is two goals behind Chicago great Stan Mikita and five goals away from tying Maurice (Rocket) Richard, who sits 24th with 544 goals.
