Jarome Iginla Fights Willie Mitchell

For several years now, the Calgary Flames have been at their Captain and leading scorer to tame down the fighting.  Obviously Iginla does not help the Flames when he is in the penalty box for 5 minutes, not to mention the risk of getting hurt during the fight.

However, for as much Iginla is the Flames leading scorer, he is also their leader. Prior to this game, there was rumor that Iginla and Mitchell would drop the gloves and those rumors turned out to be true.  While the timing may not have been great for Iginla to tango with Mitchell (the Flames just took a 3-1 lead), he did finish off Mitchell with a stiff left hook that dropped Willie to his knees and ended the fight.

What do you think of Iginla’s tendency to fight?

Is it part of his intense nature as a player and contributes to his game?

Or, do you think it detracts from his overall performance?
