I usually like to stay out of the hockey trade rumors and leave that to others in the know, but there have been some transactions completed recently that make shake up the race for the cup!
At the recent general managers meetings in Naples, many of the GM’s noted that the price for key players was simply too high. It appears that the prices have become more reasonable or the managers have changed their tune as Tuesday’s 2007 trade deadline approaches.
The Atlanta Thrashers have put heir money where their mouth is and acquired Keith Tkachuk from the St. Louis Blues along with Alexei Zhitnik from Philadelphia in exchange for prospect Braydon Coburn.
The New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks had thier deal voided as Alexander Korolyuk opted to remain in Russia rather than report to the Sharks.
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired the services of journeyman Anson Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Since being traded from Philadelphis, Peter Forsberg finally notched his first goal with the Nashville Predators.
The Anaheim Ducks acquired goaltender Gerald Coleman and a 2007 first-round draft pick from Tampa Bay on Saturday in exchange for defenseman Shane O’Brien and a third-round pick next year.
The St. Louis Blues locked down two key players Saturday, signing defenseman Eric Brewer to a four-year deal and goalie Manny Legace for two more years, ending speculation that they will be dealt before the deadline.
The Dallas Stars shored up their defense by claiming vetern Nolan Baumgartner off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers and put center Patrick Stefan on injured reserve.
The Stars also picked up Shane Endicott from the Anaheim Ducks for the ever popular “future considerations”.
The Montreal Canadiens have traded Craig Rivet to San Jose for 22-year old Josh Gorges. San Jose gave Montreal its First Round pick in the upcoming 2007 draft where the Canadiens may acquire one of these young stars.
What is going to happen with the Oilers and Ryan Smyth? There appears to be some tough decisions to be made regarding the future of Smyth in Edmonton!
Marco Sturm has agreed to a contract extension with the Boston Bruins.
