Changing Equipment Sizes Is Still A Hot Topic

In an effort get all goaltenders to “play on an even playing field” the National Hockey League is developing a uniform goaltender equipment measurement system that is designed to restrict padding that goaltenders wear that is specifically designed to stop a puck, rather than protect them.

According to TSN, the players are being very cooperative with the proposed measures and view this change as a positive step to improving the overall game.

Of course these new rules will not go so far as to jeopardize the safety of the goaltender, but simply eliminate ’some’ of that additional padding that has the sole purpose of stopping more pucks.

The National Hockey Leagues says that a universal measurement system will be developed so goalies will wear equipment that will properly fit them as opposed to wearing bulky gear.

The measurement system is at least a year away from being implemented, but it is designed with the idea of ’shaping’ goalies as opposed to making them look more square like we’ve seen in recent years.

I wonder how this will effect the goalie equipment manufacturers?

A company like Vaughn, that is one of the top manufacturers in the world will certainly have a vested interest in how this new system is designed and implemented - especially through leagues other than the National Hockey League.
