Roanld Petrovicky knocked out Kris Newbury last night in what was one of the most hideous hockey knockouts since Boogaard broke Fedoruk’s face.
Toronto’s Newbury was motionless on the ice for about 5 minutes, but regained conciousness and was moving. He was taken off of the ice on a stretcher after team doctors tended to him on the ice surface.

UPDATE: Via SLAM Sports on Newbury’s condition

“He is doing all right,” Leafs general manager John Ferguson said yesterday. “He will be listed as day to day.”

Did Newbury, whose helmet-less head hit the ice after he was knocked out, suffer a concussion?

“It’s too early to state anything definitive,” Ferguson said.

UPDATE #2: Newbury did not get a concussion and is expected back within a week.
