Playoff Predictions

On April 25th I took a look at my thoughts and predictions for Round 2 of the NHL Playoffs.
Let’s look back and see how I made out…
I was pretty pumped about the Sabres vs. Rangers series and I was right, it was the most exciting series to watch! I leaned toward the Sabres because I thought that Ryan Miller would out-play Lundqvist. I was wrong on that fact, Lundqvist played outstanding, but the end result was the same. Sabres win the series and I’m one-for-one!
In the Ducks vs. Canucks series, I predicted that the Ducks would win in Five (maybe Six) and they did just that! They had stellar defensive play and shut down the top line of the Canucks all series long. I still like the feisty youth of the Ducks with the crafty veteran leadership, especially on the blueline. I’m now two-for-two!
Devils vs. Senators – Here’s where things go south! I predicted that Martin Brodeur would steal the show against Ray Emery and the Ottawa Senators. I really blew this one and so did Brodeur! He played well below his normal standards and was not the deciding factor that I thought he would be. The Devils top guns were also shut down, minus Scott Gomez who is amazing!
Ottawa will have their hands full with Buffalo, but it shoudl be a great series to watch!
I’m now two-for -three.
I picked Detroit over San Jose in Six games due to the fact that San Jose’s blueline just isn’t up to par with the line-up that the Red Wings put on thier back-end. If Datsyuk stays hot and the Wings can heal some of their wounds, they could be dangerous! I’m slightly concerned about the loss of Mathieu Schneider. I’m not sure if Chelios and Lidstrom can play nearly 30 minutes a game for an entire series like they did last night?
Three out of Four ain’t bad!

[...] I am as bad as the next person for thinking that Ray Emery was the weakest link on the Ottawa team. However, “Sugar” Ray has proven us all wrong with his spectacular play, including 3 shutouts, this post-season. [...]
