Matt over at Battle of Alberta has a nice piece on Alex Tanguay and his apparent “role” with the Calgary Flames. This is a great opinion piece on the situation and a very good read. I still can’t figure out why Tanguay feels the need to feed the media? He must have taken some lessons from Brian Burke.
Bruins News
Wicked Bruins Fan shells out all of the important news about the Bruins training camp and the upcoming season. Not that much important goes on in Boston in September – Except the Red Sox run to a World Series.
Anyone Need A J-O-B?
Wild Puck Banter points out that the Minnesota Wild are looking for a mascot for the upcoming season. He has some thoughts on the job qualifications and even offers up a possible candidate. My favorite job qualification direct from NHL Jobs is ‘Must have excellent ice skating abilities while in costume”. Certainly good for a laugh.
Sundin Hits The Tables
Mats Sundin has apparently signed a deal with PokerStars.net according to James Mirtle and the Poker Stars website. I’m not making any bets that Mats will be back on the ice this season! At least in poker the worst he can get is a few bad hands – not get stuck with a crappy franchise for over a decade.
Fighting Needs To Stay
Joe Pelletier relayed some recent thoughts on fighting in the NHL by Barry Melrose. I have to agree that people in general love fighting and that is evidenced the referenced fact that Ultimate Fighting is the fastest grwoing sport today. Joe also includes a good old fashioned scrap video for your viewing pleasure.
Kiss and Make Up?
Waiting for Stanley reports that in a stunning turn of events, the Kontinental Hockey League and International Ice Hockey Federation appear to have extended an olive branch to the NHL, which may ultimately lead to a thaw in the frigid relations between the KHL and the NHL.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
