New NHL RBK Reebok Edge UniformsFor those of you interested, Reebok has launched a microsite that is completely dedicated to the new Reebok Edge Uniform System that was unveiled at the 2007 NHL All-Star game in Dallas.

This site fully explains the design and functionality of the new uniforms. The site offers a full 4 minute video explaining the process that Reebok went through from start to finish in developing the uniforms.

  • The video includes:
    1.) Conceptual Design
  • 2.) Prototyping and Testing
    3.) Advanced Testing
  • 4.) NHLPA Validation and Feedback

The site also offers a 360 Degree view of the uniform, modeled by none other than Sidney Crosby.

Here is what Chris Drury had to say about the new uniforms:

“I love the new Rbk EDGE jersey,” Buffalo’s Chris Drury said. “It’s a very comfortable uniform, much lighter than what we’re used to. It will help me and everyone in the league perform to our maximum capability, particularly late in a game when we can sometimes get a little slower and heavier.

This is a real step forward and it will be great for the league and our game. I wish I had it earlier in my career and if I could wear it as early as this week, I would.”

Drury is an idiot!! These jerseys are disgusting!!!! Boycott the NHL in 2007-08!!!!!!. Don’t buy the Center Ice Package, do not buy any new memorabilia especially the new spacesuit jerseys!!! do not attend any NHL games. Let the NHL know that Gary’s NHL sucks!! Bettman is a schmuck!!!

    In response to Rob:
You have a lot of pent up frustration it seems. If Drury likes the jersey and has seen a difference, who the hell are you to say differently? Of course a large part of this image is to sell sell and sell – the NHL has no TV money coming in like the NFL or MLB or NBA so what’s the big deal – don’t buy it. I am as big an NHL fan there is but I don’t need to prove it to anyone by buying overpriced jersey’s. But I would not call for a boycott. If people are stupid enough to pay that money then that is their business. If you are just upset Rob because you can’t afford it then just say so – if the NHL games are too expensive for you to attend then just say so – there is no shame in that. Hockey can be an expensive sport to play and to be a fan of. Who really care’s what the jersey looks like that they play in? You call for a boycott in 07-2008. Why wait until then if you are so angry? I’m not saying the NHL is perfect but what would you do to fix things? You just complained – and about new jersey’s of all things that don’t look a whole hell of a lot different than what they are wearing now. Offer some solutions – enlighten us, please. Tell us how the NHL can compete with the NFL and NBA and don’t say by moving all the teams but a select few to Canada because that is a nice thought for me, but let’s face it – totally unrealistic!!

    This guy has a problem.

I personally think they’ll be absolutely fine! they’re trying to make an improvement in the players uniforms for the PLAYERS benefits!

There are so many people (like Rob) who’s got issues.

Alright, here is what they should do. First of all they need to make the original six somewhat special. They should re-do the jerseys for all teams except the original six ones. I mean honestly, these jerseys just dont look right for the Rangers, Canadiens, Red Wings, Bruins, Maple Leafs and Blackhawks.

    Hey chad and Russ Germain,

The jersey situation is just the last straw. Bettman has been hijacking the game since he came on board!
It is just the lastest manuever to completely transform the game into Gary’s NHL. That is why I mention a boycott!. Not just because of the New Skin tights. How about constant rule changes every damn year for starters. How about the changing of the division names? How about shootouts? Bettman alone this year tried to convince the owners that the playoff format should be changed to resemble the NBA format with no reseeding. Thankfully the owners shut him down on that. Do your homework, Bettman comes out with lame ideas ALL the time! He is s NBA guy with no hockey knowledge and needs to go! and for everybody that thinks the new uniforms look the same, you obviously don’t spend much time dwelling on such things. We all saw the All Star jersey’s and they are completely different. I am talking about the cut. All this talk about materials is a non issue. the difference is in the actual cut, circuliar hemlines, the underarm gussets, flexable meshes, and all of the vertical lines we will be seeing on many of the jerseys. These things look horrid!
Russ Germain, you and other hockey newbies will take what ever is fed to you, so you don’t see a difference in the league.
And chad, a starting point solution WAS presented!! Bettman has to go and if people choose to, they can not buy into Gary’s NHL vision.
One more thing as a hockey fan , why should I care if the NHL makes more money or becomes more sucessful. That does not mean the hockey is any better. Pull out a tape from 80’s and early 90’s and I defy you to tell me the hockey product is better today! Why shoud I care about the NHL competing with the other sports! Personally I loved the days when I could just order the Sportschannel NHL package and not care at all about whether the NHL had a national TV contract. The NHL will never compete with the other top tiered sports, so they should get rid of their inferiority complex, after all that is the catalyst for the constant changes we see in this once great league…………………………Rob

these jerseys don’t attract me at all, dallas has a unique uniform allready, detroit has history, boston had a similar sweater to calgarys a few years back if you remember the offsetting on the bottom front which looked like a printing error. These concepts shown on this site are too similar to each other and I would doubt they’re all being considered. NO ONE WANTS TO SEE A BUNCHA TEAMS WITH THE SAME STYLE. It’s what makes each team unique. Maybe bring back the 90’s style but with a 2000’s edge. Pittsburgh needs a major overhaul, just their uniform not the emblem. I say bring back their old 3rd jersey with the stripes around the chest/abdomen like montreal. In fact ALOT of uniforms out there have no heart for them, just slapped together and lost the feel for hockey. Simplicity gets better in time. anyone coming out with an extremely detailed design is nuts. If you can’t make it out on the ice at centre ice then don’t put it on your sweaters. As for designs, same thing! Simplicity sells, too much detail losses in the end(Nashville).

ROB, …. I agree… they look like crap!!! Chad – play a game and NOT be just a fan…. be a player!
I think that GARY is getting off on the fact that people listen to him. I mean the guy is bonehead, the new uniforms are another one of Gary’s / RBK’s idea of re-branding the game that was doing fine, besides the war between the millionaire and billionaires, but it is becoming an OVER EXPOSED MARKET- now with Crosby & RBK every 10 seconds…. Sure the guy plays hockey, but can we get out of his A** for 5 mins so he can really do something. Lindros was supposed to be something or someone, Jagr too, Tangey and the list goes on…. RBK needs to cool it… I am not buying any of their crap, I am not 14 yrs old being pressured to buy it over priced, over exposed merchanise.

hey lou what do you know about how the nhl works when ur only 14, like you must either have no other life cause all you do is hocley, or your just trying to make yourself seem smart by pointing out the obvious… like any fan, or player as you say knows gary bettman is a dumbass. second i have no idea where this boycott the nhl came from, you guys are idiots… most jerseys have minor tweaks to them and the teams that changed did cause that franchise decided to themselves. the original 6 have all remained the same so save your breath about “preserving the tradition and all that crap”. third why the fuck does any fan care about what the jersey is made out of? your not the ones wearing the jersey so your opinion of the rbk edge jersey doesnt matter and rlly most people dont care. most of the players love the new jerseys.

  28. ryan smyth on Fri, 14th Sep 2007 2:49 pm

Look…everyone is bashing these jerseys. Even i was skeptical, but they honestly just look like jerseys from the 50’s and 60’s….i think they look awesome!

Everyone loves bashing them because no one is happy with ANYTHING thats new. i think Vancouvers vintage look is way better than the blue ones of the last few years. And i also think the islanders look great as well. very simplistic and un-pretentious.

While im not happy with RBK being in the NHL, i think they deserve a thumbs up for bringing back the old-time hockey look and for what theyve done with the new jerseys.

  29. FlamesFan on Sat, 15th Sep 2007 10:44 am

This is just another of Bettman’s dubious ideas. Reebok in HOCKEY? Obviously, their cheque was bigger than CCM’s. I am not falling for this blatant merchandising cash grab by the BBHL (Bettman Basketball Hockey League). I’ve got my authentic 1989 Flames jersey, and an even earlier Leafs jersey. I’ll continue to wear those at games, and to heck with the marketers.

While I’m at it, how ’bout having the same rules for at least 2 seasons in a row? Hockey will never go mainstream in the Excited States, so at the risk of sounding like Don Cherry, give the purists what they want.
