I looked at other Jonathan’s fights against Clark Gillies and Dave Schultz. It’s so obvious that without his helmet, he couldn’t win against much taller man, such as Bouchard. Jonathan was just a pigmy that I could haven taken care of myself (without helmet); and I’m only 5′11”. He was only counting on his opponents to break their knuckles on his helmet and take advantage of that; other than that, just a coward!

Agree with Serge; without his helmet on (sign of a coward in a hockey fight), Jonathan was a dead man. A ridiculous cheap and mean dwarf against such a man as Bouchard, Jonathan just left a bad memory. Just a lucky sucker punch while he should have already been knocked out (without his helmet!).

Jonathan clearly won this fight,but Jonathan was one of the dirtier fighters also. He hit Bouchard several shots when Bouchard was already down,a huge no-no among hockey’s elite fighters. When Jonathan was losing a fight(e.g. Clark Gillies,Curt Walker) he would try to leg-lock them down.When both these men beat Jonathan,he tried on both occassions to land sucker shots after the fight.

Lot’s of respect for Jonathan butr without is helmet againts Bouchard he would not have last taht long and he goes qith a cheap shot when he falls over Bouchard

Great fight, and no doubt Stanley won a decisive KO. But NHL Digest needs to do its homework. Bouchard wasn’t forced to retire as you state. His face was not fractured, he merely broke his nose. He was claimed on waivers by the Caps the next year, and sat out most of the season not wanting to play for one of the worst franchises goin’. Yet he ultimately came back and played two seasons for them, and a final yr. in the AHL in Hershey. And to AdamsBruinsFan: that’s not just Bouchards blood on linseman John D’Amico’s face, it’s mainly D’Amicos. When the melee started he was clipped by O’Reilly’s stick and got a fourteen stich cut. This was one of my favorite fights. The smaller Bruins vs big Canadien and Jonathan bloodies the hell out of Bouchard. Watch the clip, you’ll see Bouchard’s blood all over the refs face as well. Ah, the good old days, they’re gone now, now we have this much softer type of hockey.
