Joe Pelletier says that prior to the arrival of Patrick Roy, Dominik Hasek, and Martin Brodeur, the debate about the greatest goalie in the history of hockey usually revolved around Terry Sawchuk, Glenn Hall and Jacques Plante.
Most people sided with Sawchuk, with his career record 447 wins and once thought untouchable record of 103 shutouts.
Peter Forsberg showed very little rust in his return and the Colorado Avalanche won their fourth straight, beating the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 on Tuesday night.
North Dakota ran its nation-best unbeaten streak to 15 games last weekend, taking over the top spot in Monday’s Division I men’s poll in the process. The Fighting Sioux garnered 37 of 50 first-place votes after sweeping Minnesota Duluth Saturday and Sunday, replacing Michigan as the No. 1 team in the nation.
When Martin Brodeur’s NHL career is done and there’s a little corner of the Hockey Hall of Fame set up in his honour, it’s doubtful many of the 2007-08 Maple Leafs will saunter over to Yonge and Front to pay it heed.
Miikka Kiprusoff made 39 saves as the host Calgary Flames defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 1-0 on Tuesday night.
Sidney Crosby returned to the Pittsburgh lineup for the first time since Jan. 18 on Tuesday night and set up Maxime Talbot’s game winning goal as the Pens took over the No.1 seed.
