Samiha, I am building a box (kind of like a hope chest) out of hockey sticks for my son. I will put your sticks to good use if you want to donate them. I can be reached at diehardleafsfan@live.com

Hey, these idea's are amazingly creative. If only i had enough time!
But yes, I happen to have a bunch of old sticks kicking around, and I was wondering if anyone knows a place in Toronto where I could donate them? For use or for art sake, it doesn't matter as long as someone can put them to use... it'd make my day=)

In the 70's my dad used my brothers old wooden hockey sticks as stakes in our garden to tie the tomato plants to. It was pretty cool having Northland and Koho as part of our garden. The home made weighted pucks he made were pretty cool, too. I remember him carving out the center of the puck and then pouring his melted concoction into it. The dents in the wood walls inside our garage were a little deeper than usual, though. Oh, yeah, he also created an ice rink in our backyard that was pretty much the whole width and length of our backyard. You had to really watch out for the birch tree though - it was near where one of the faceoff circles would have been (no, he did not paint lines -that's why we have imaginations - to visualize it)

He was the old school hockey Dad every kid should have, back when hockey families were blue collar, and they had used equipment sales at the rink. When I finally found a girls ice hockey league in a town a few miles away, I gladly wore my brothers old hockey equipment, which he got handed down to him from my other brother, who got it used at the used equipment sale at our rink a few blocks away. Snowball fights in the summertime from the shaved snow pile just outside the zamboni door was a cool relief. Then we would run up the dirt piles at the township dpw yard. Great hockey memories.

These are some great ideas, but Toronto fans might prefer to use their old wooden sticks to make a ladder that will help the Leafs climb out of the basement this season!
