Worst Hockey Shin Pads Ever

As part of our worst hockey equipment series here at NHL Digest, we present to you the worst shin pads ever produced.
These shin pads were made by Cooper and not only did they lack strength in the plastic (it would crack all the time) but the miniscule foam pad between the knee cap and the shin was a virtual magnet for slapshots and opposing team’s slashes. I still have bruises!

Hahahahaha! I had PLENTY of these when I started pickup hockey, and they are indeed TOTAL CRAP. They always fell apart when they got old because the plastic would break down.

Wow. These are what I was wearing the last time I ever played hockey. I fractured my knee cap wearing these while playing in an IM game at Michigan Tech. I remember wondering about the risk every time I put them one, but for some reason all of my extra money kept going to pay for beer. In the end it was probably a fair trade-off.

My buddy refuses to replace them! He has to tape them properly because they broke twice… (With the amount of money the taping had cost he would have been able to purchase the Preds … )
BTW: Scientists love to have them, because an unknown species was discovered on his pads.

If I could find a pair I would still use them

Cooper made dozens of different shinguards. This one particular pair was the worst? Ok.

I just threw a pair of these away I used them for 20 years without a single problem them. I was playing a couple weeks ago and got cross checked landed on my knees and the plastic just disintegrated and that was a tragedy I loved them with a passion.
